Automation Support Technician - Thame - Negotiable, dependant on experience
Our client is a world leader in remote control and monitoring systems for the electricity supply industry. They are part of a company that manufactures medium voltage switchgear for the same market. They have facilities in Africa, Brazil, Dubai, India and Thailand as well as the UK. Building / proving prototype embedded electronic based products. Testing, fault finding and repair of production failures and customer returns.
The role is primarily based in Thame, with occasional visits to other parts of the business and customer sites.
Key Accountabilities
* Build and test prototype Automation equipment, from SMD PCB to complete box build
* Make wiring looms, this may include some design
* Be involved in product type testing
* Create/document test procedures and support production build instructions
* Provide support to R&D engineers and design projects
* Assist with test programs for LabView based automated test systems
* Manufacturing support
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Skills - what do you need to be able to do this role?
* Able to understand complex circuit diagrams
* Solder (inc. SMT), ideally to IPC standard
* Embedded electronics assembly, test and fault finding to PCB component level
* Design and build test equipment for electronic systems
* Undertake environmental and EMC testing
* Work with hardware and software engineers to create test specifications/procedures and manufacturing documentation
* Use MS Office applications, primarily Word and Excel
* Have a methodical approach to problem solving
* Be well organised
* Able to work independently or within a team
* Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Knowledge - what you need to know
* Electronics theory
* PCB technology and assembly methods
* Electrical wiring practice including safety
* Basic mechanical
Knowledge - what it would be good to have
* Software / programming
* An understanding of project planning
* Use of PCB/schematic CAD tools such as Cadence or Proteus
* LabView
* Knowledge of MV distribution systems and switchgear
Qualifications
* HND or equivalent
