Our exciting Software Apprentice role will develop your software skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer with well-honed technical knowledge. You will support the team to deliver software solutions to deadlines and within budget, including reviewing code and running project reviews.

As an Apprentice Software Engineer you will develop key skills and experience in the following:
  • Programming skills in C or C++
  • Knowledge of OpenGL, graphics programming and mathematical systems modelling
  • Experience of working in an agile environment
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools, aircraft and sensor systems and training simulator systems
  • Development of quality software solutions that adhere to timescale and budget
  • Domain specific knowledge and application of mathematics skills to model aircraft and simulation systems

Degree Apprenticeship Programme:

Through our degree apprenticeship you'll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a software apprentice you will be studying towards a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions with Warwick University following the Software Engineering pathway. For the duration of this four year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our software function in Crawley.

This programme is delivered via a block-release model whereby you will attend an average of six weeks at university per year - remote support will be provided online, as well as workplace support with both your technical and practical development. You will be given one day per week in which to focus on your studies. For the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning in a real-life software environment. At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a software engineer within one of the Thales UK businesses.

Who we're looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.

Entry requirements:

A minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A2 (Grades BCC) with at least 1 STEM subject (Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics) in addition to Maths, or an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM. You will also require 5 GCSEs grade A-C including English and Maths and an additional STEM subject.

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the four-year programme.
