What you'll be doing:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Hardware Engineering Apprentice to join the Hardware Engineering Team within Thales Underwater Systems (UWS). This team undertakes the engineering design of Sonar systems deployed with both the Royal Navy and export customers across the globe.

Thales' sonar expertise covers everything from advanced acoustic arrays through to sophisticated signal processing architectures. As such we continue to deliver the world's most advanced maritime sonar systems.

This Apprenticeship within a diverse, highly skilled team, will provide technical training at a local college and on the job practical experience, across hardware functions such as mechanical and electronics engineering. It will involve practical workshop and trials support, working with cutting edge engineering design tools but also understanding how to interpret and deliver customer needs, such as supporting the delivery of designs that are cost effective to manufacture and maintain.

This role will help develop fundamental engineering principles and approaches through working on leading edge defence systems. In so doing you will help maintain and enhance our capabilities and competitiveness.

The Programme

Through our Level three apprenticeship you'll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a Hardware Engineering Apprentice you will be working towards a Level three qualification in Engineering. For the duration of this three-year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local college. For the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the industry. At the end of the programme you will move into a permanent role within the engineering function.

This opportunity is in Templecombe, working within the defence business.

Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to build a career within the engineering function.

You will also need:

Five GCSEs 9 - 4 (A - C) including Maths, English and Science.

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the programme.
