We have an opportunity in our shared accommodation for a new colleague to join us in making a difference to our young people who live in the property. It is a role that offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience working with and supporting young people, through modelling independent living skills in a shared accommodation environment. You will have your own secure room and shower/toilet facilities, sharing other facilities with the young people you are supporting. Your accommodation cost will be covered through accommodation offset.
We are a leading youth homeless charity based in the South West, working with over 2,500 young people. We have strong local partnerships and adhere to the best practice in the sector. We build trusting relationships between our young people and our colleagues and this is at the core of our work.
What we are looking for:
- You can positively engage and build rapport with young people.
- You have the motivation and energy to facilitate fun and skill-based house activities, with the aim of developing young people’s independent living skills.
- You are enthusiastic, able to work on own initiative but also alongside the housing team, ensuring a safe and thriving home environment.
- You maintain professional boundaries and offer clear and consistent responses to young people who may present challenging behaviour and have learned not to trust.
- You are confident (with support) in making effective decisions that safeguard and promote the welfare of young people and manage risk.
What you will be doing:
- By having a flexible approach to support and by being creative, you will help, encourage and engage our young people through regular house meetings and 1-2-1 skill-based support sessions, working flexibly over the week.
- Through joint working and weekly contact with the Supported Housing Officer, you will facilitate key working with the young people in the property.
- Being vigilant and responsible, you will ensure a safe, homely environment at the property.
- Using your problem-solving skills, you will manage challenging behaviour within the property when it happens.
What we are offering:
- A great opportunity to develop your skills working with young people and valuable experience and training opportunities.
- Flexible working, pension contribution of 4% and the option to join the UK Healthcare Employee membership.
- Regular supervision, Reflective Practice and multi team working in a Psychologically Informed Environment.
- Accommodation offset (i.e. no rent and bills!).

Covering Letter Guidance
Please note that the online application form cannot be saved until it is fully complete. We recommend that you prepare your Covering Letter before you start the online application.
Your Covering Letter will form the most important basis on which your skills, experience and personal attributes will be tested against the job criteria. Without it, your application cannot progress to the shortlisting stage.
You should refer to the Person Specification document within the Job Pack and cover only the elements that are tested at this stage of the recruitment process. Elements that only have the word ‘interview’ next to them will be tested at the next stage of the process and do not need to be covered in your letter.
ALTHOUGH THE APPLICATION FORM GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO UPLOAD A CV, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A CV AS THIS IS NOT NECESSARY AND WILL NOT BE USED IN THIS PROCESS.
Equal opportunities for everyone:
We safeguard and promote the safety and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Any job offer will depend on a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Barred List Disclosure Check.
We believe those with a criminal record should have an equal chance to become employees or volunteers. We also pride ourselves on being an equal opportunities employer for everyone regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, religion and beliefs, sex and sexual orientation. We are particularly keen to increase applications from Black and Minority Ethnic groups as they are currently under-represented.
