Senior Marketing Manager | Genetic Solutions for Aquaculture
St Andrews, Scotland | Starting Salary cGBP45,000 plus pension, share options scheme & relocation package
Available from Mid-January 2020
Aquaculture is the fastest growing agriculture sector and is expected to contribute to almost all future growth in seafood consumption. We are a specialist genetics company serving the aquaculture industry from its base in St Andrews, Scotland since 2013. St Andrews is a historic seaside town in Fife famous for its ancient university and golf tourism.
What we do:
We manage breeding programmes for fish and shrimp species across the Americas, Europe, SE Asia, Africa and Oceania. We proud to include some of the most well-known and progressive companies in the industry amongst our customers. The business model is customer focused and involves long-term strategic B2B partnerships. 95% of our sales are comprised of recurring revenues. Selecting a company to manage your breeding programme is a major strategic decision. Typically, customer engagement starts with an initial time-limited consultancy of a few months' duration to establish the relationship before starting the long-term relationship. The service includes the development of bespoke genetic tools, breeding programme design, genotyping, genetic analysis and the preparation of breeding plans.
The company has modern laboratories including DNA sequencing equipment. The practical application of the science is delivered by an account manager who typically makes one or more visits to the customer's hatchery each year. We are one of only two similar independent companies of any scale worldwide. The value proposition of our service is as follows:
+ It allows companies to differentiate their market offering e.g. develop a premium brand.
+ It allows companies to achieve production efficiencies by selecting stock adapted to local environmental conditions and/or specific pathogens.
+ It mitigates the risk associated with the lack of control that comes with dependency on a third-party supplier for provision of stock.
+ It is the only option for the many species that are not covered by centralised breeding programmes that provide eggs or juveniles for on-growing.
The advertised position of Senior Marketing Manager is the first of its kind within the company and it offers the opportunity to build a marketing and sales team as the company expands.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and engaging person with formal training in marketing to Honours Degree level and an established track record of success in previous employments. Previous knowledge and involvement with the aquaculture industry would be an advantage but is not essential. The duties of the Senior Marketing Manager would include Marketing, sales and customer care as described below:
+ Building a database of potential customers
+ Developing and implementing a strategy for customer engagement
+ Supporting to Directors for contract pricing
+ Managing customer relations
+ Managing the web site
+ Devising and launching digital and print advertising campaigns in the trade press
+ Developing promotional brochures
+ Preparation for exhibiting at major trade shows
+ Attendance at trade shows include AquaNor and Aquaculture UK which take place in Trondheim Norway and Aviemore, Scotland in alternate years. We expect to attend other trade shows in Europe, the Middle East and SE Asia in the future.
We operate a 37.5 hour working week. Some flexibility and overseas travel are a requirement of the position. Additional benefits include 28 days paid holiday/year and involvement in the company's pension and share option incentive schemes. A relocation package is also negotiable.
About You:
+ An experienced and trained marketing professional with a strong background in customer relations and branding
+ A track record of successfully managing brand and driving sales in a relevant sector - possibly looking for a relocation to a new challenge
+ A proven track record of managing and delivering brand strategy: to win new sales, to build strong relationships with existing customers, to manage web and social media content and other media presence, to effectively build a strong international network across the industry
+ Keen to learn and absorb new technical skills
+ Any experience within an aquaculture feed, genetics or animal breeding company would be beneficial
