My client are an exciting and fast-growing pharmaceutical business, due to expansion of their R&D department they are looking to hire enthusiastic, post-graduate, synthetic organic chemists to join the expanding R&D team. You will be working in new, state-of-the-art laboratories, close to London, preparing synthetic targets. You will join a highly motivated, multi-functional R&D team and will play a vital role in contributing, and delivering pharmaceutical APIs, to their highly promising pipeline. They offer a nurturing environment where you will be encouraged to reach your best potential.We seek applications from candidates just leaving university, with Medicinal Chemistry or Process Research & Development experience, as well as experienced Synthetic Organic Chemists and Medicinal Chemists.

Key Responsibilities for the Synthetic Organic Chemist;

  • You will use your chemical knowledge and expertise to prepare complex research and development compounds. This will involve the synthesis, separation and/or purification on small (mg) to large scale (Kg) supporting research through to commercial support projects
  • Lead API syntheses whilst providing clear and concise updates of your results to the project team
  • Use your varied experience of NMR, HPLC and MS for structural determination
  • Work in close partnership with analysts, formulation scientists and cross-functionally
  • Exhibit highly effective teamworking and communication skills and a motivation to solve synthetic chemistry and drug development problems
  • Mentor and share knowledge with the junior members of the team where applicable
  • You may be asked to collaborate/lead external CRO projects

To be considered for a Synthetic Organic Chemist post, you'll need the following skills and experience;

  • A minimum of a BSc, MSc or PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or a related subject
  • Experience using a variety of synthetic route to produce novel organic molecules, ideally within a pharmaceutical setting
  • Relevant experience in a CRO or pharmaceutical company is desirable, but not essential
  • Candidates may have Medicinal Chemistry experience
  • A track record of delivering to deadlines
  • Innate ability to be proactive and a desire to use own initiative
