About the Department

Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

What is the Role

As an Overhead Line Inspector, you will walk and survey overhead lines, recording information on a hand-held mobile device and ensure that our network is compliant with ESQCR.

The information you collate will be accurate to ensure we comply with Health and Safety Regulations and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures. You will always be committed to working safely and will actively work to identify and implement effective business improvements.

What do I need?

You will thrive working outdoors, will be comfortable doing so in all-weather conditions and as this role can be physically demanding, will have a basic level of fitness. Knowledge of map reading would also be highly advantageous as well as an understanding of ESQC Regulations.

You will also be well organised and will possess excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.

Safety is one of our key priorities, so you should have the ability to risk assess activities throughout your working day and to work within our Health and Safety guidelines. Due to the nature of this role you must have the ability to work flexibly to meet business requirements and be comfortable being a lone worker.

Although based in your local area, you may reasonably be required to work within our core hours and anywhere within Wessex Region to service business demands so a driving license is essential.

Please be aware if you are successful, you'll be required to complete our pre-employment screening process before joining SSE.

For this role you must have a full, current driving license.
