IT Systems Administrator

37.5 hrs week    Salary £27K - £33K

Core hours 9.00am – 5.30pm

Harlow Campus is the European Campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada which houses up to 60 students and faculty in its residences.

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance of all technical systems and resources within Harlow Campus including support/knowledge for staff, students and guests.  The role will also include management of Harlow Campus website and social media.
 

Role to Include:

  • Responsible for day-to-day support and maintenance of servers and workstations, including troubleshooting of hardware and software issues.
  • Responsible for day-to-day support of the Local Area Network, wireless technology and internet resources.
  • Works with end-users, staff and to resolve hardware, software and network connectivity issues, which may require in-depth analysis and testing.
  • Responsible for updating software and ensuring security patch levels are up to date.
  • Responsible for system backups (VERITAS) and enforcement of backup policies.
  • Responsible for all applicable system and application documentation
  • Proactively identifies problem trends and known error conditions and work towards a permanent solution.

The applicant will have a combination of training and demonstrable experience of working effectively in a customer-facing IT support role, with the awareness of common IT-related issues, GDPR and information security. The applicant must be highly motivated and able to work independently, maintain proficiency in modern computer systems, and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills. The successful candidate should have at least two years’ experience in a similar role.

Technical skills required:

  • Windows Based Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Server Administration
  • Active Directory, DHCP, WINS, DNS
  • 3Com/Cisco switches & wireless
