Investigator - Major Crime Review Unit

The closing date for this post is 12 noon on Wednesday 23rd October 2019.
Those currently eligible on the redeployment register will be given prior consideration.
The main purpose of the role is to assess & review Undetected Serious and Major Crime as directed.
Main Responsibilities:
Complete 28 day, annual and biannual reviews of undetected homicide offences and other identified serious crime as directed.
Monitor and assess force systems for undetected major crime and assume responsibility as directed for all review aspects. When necessary liaise with National Crime Agency and College of Policing.
Complete reviews of complex crime and critical incidents as directed by ACC PS, D/C/S, D/Supt and Crime Manager.
Complete Individual Management Reports for Serious Case Reviews commissioned by Local Authority Children's Boards.
Complete Individual Management Reports for Domestic Homicide Reviews commissioned by Local Authority Adult Boards.
Monitor, assess and review undetected serious sexual offences ensuring compliance with approved professional practice.
Monitor, assess and review long term missing persons.
Assist outside forces and contracted consultants in relation to relevant research aspects around historic incidents.
Assume single point of contact status with the Criminal Case Review Commission and ensure contact with the College of Policing for general best practice.
To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
Experience/Skills:
Significant knowledge of criminal law and criminal offences.
Significant knowledge around sources and value of forensic evidence.
Significant knowledge of national criminal investigation approved professional practice to influence the formulation of any considered recommendations.
Knowledge of and compliance with all aspects of The Data Protection Act 1984.
Significant experience, at an equivalent criminal investigations, is essential.
A proven all-round investigative ability.
Possess an analytical mind, a methodical approach and have attention to detail.
The ability to work with other agencies and partners.
Ability to write sound, comprehensive reports.
Excellent research skills.
Special Conditions:
The duties of this role require:
Regular travel throughout West Mercia
Exposure to disturbing/unpleasant images or tasks i.e. crime scene evidence.
