Salary GBP18,812 - GBP20,123 (GBP10.86-GBP11.28 per hour) pro rata per annum, based on salary assessment and relevant experience
We are looking for an Animal Care Technician to join the team based at our Northop Site. To be considered you will need to be someone who is an experienced Aquarist, and previously worked in an Aquatics role.
Within the role, you will provide technical support for Instructors and Lecturers by ensuring that learning materials, tools and equipment for students are maintained and prepared for workshops.
Assisting Lecturers to provide support for the safe and effective operation of the Animal Centre, you will prepare the Animal Centre environment which includes chemicals, solutions equipment and materials for all practical work. You will assist with class demonstrations and with students working in practical situations whilst being pro-active in keeping the Animal Centre tidy, in particular the tools, equipment and component storage.
Conducting tours of the Animal Centre for visitors and providing food and water for the variety of animals being kept, you carry out on-going investigation into new practices within an Animal Care remit and ensure that the College is able to respond accordingly in order to benefit the students learning process.
We're looking for an individual who holds an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Animal Care and It is essential that you are an experienced aquarist that has had experience of working in an aquarium environment. With excellent communication and team-working skills and the ability to prioritise and organise own workload, you will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and be able to work under pressure.
Pro-active and self-motivated, you will have a good understanding of how to care for a broad range of animal species. With the ability to review existing procedures to develop and implement best working practices, you will also have experience in maintaining stock, carrying out stock audits and liaising with various suppliers.
The ability to speak fluent Welsh is highly desirable and a DBS Disclosure will be requested from the successful applicant being offered the position.
