Site Manager
Reference number: A2461019
Location: RSPB Coombes Valley

Salary starting at: £29,507 to £31,966 per annum - Applicants should expect under normal circumstances to receive an offer at the bottom of the advertised range
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent

The sites total over 300ha of SSSI Broadleaved woodland and grassland habitat and are the most important site for pied flycatcher and redstart in the West Midlands. They are also important habitat for willow tit, spotted flycatcher, wood warbler, greater butterfly orchid and many species of invertebrates. You will be responsible for delivering the objectives set out in the reserve management plan alongside delivering a high quality visitor experience for local people, wildlife enthusiasts and families.

You will lead and inspire a team of volunteers and staff, including a warden, 3 full time interns and an administrator, to deliver excellence for woodlands and people on both sites. Line management experience is essential to this role.

Across both reserves, the RSPB works with a variety of stakeholders and the wider community to develop a shared vision for the reserves that brings everyone together and secures sustainability for all.

Being a strong advocate for the RSPB's mission on site, the Site Manager builds the strategic bigger picture; the mission is to achieve the full potential of RSPB Coombes Valley and Consall Woods, as yet untapped, to demonstrate conservation where people work together to create an environment where wildlife and visitors can successfully co-exist.

Experience managing budgets is required, and you will have income targets to deliver through events, catering, grants, membership etc. You will also need to help with some practical delivery on site so chainsaw certificates and pesticide qualifications are desirable.

RSPB Coombes Valley is one of the RSPBs oldest nature reserves, purchased in 1963, you will have the exciting challenge of managing this well established site alongside one of the RSPB's newest nature reserves, Consall Woods. This site is now managed by the RSPB on a 100 year long lease from Staffordshire County Council with incredibly exciting opportunities to rapidly increase RSPB priority bird woodland breeding numbers and develop an amazing visitor experience that will connect the people of North Staffordshire to nature.
