Project Manager - Ghana and Mozambique Mobile Data Project (13 Month Contract)
Southampton, Hampshire (office/field-based, with travel to Ghana and Mozambique)
About Us
Flowminder is a pioneering, internationally operating non-profit organisation that supports disaster relief and development efforts through the analysis of de-identified data gained from mobile phones and household surveys.
The Mozambique Mobile Data Project, funded by The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL), will provide the Mozambican National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC) with anonymous mobile phone metadata that will directly feed into their decision-making processes.
The project in Ghana involves the Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), Vodafone Ghana, and Flowminder to build capacity within GSS to enable anonymous mobile phone metadata to be incorporated into the production of official statistics. The project is the first of its kind in Africa and has the potential to set a new precedent for the way that official statistics are produced.
We are now seeking a Project Manager to join us and deliver these two flagship projects and ensure their success. There is potential to extend the contract if various criteria are achieved.
The Benefits
- Salary of up to GBP55,000 per annum
- Enhance your experience with a leading not-for-profit
- Collaborate with a talented, passionate team
- Play a leading role in ground-breaking projects that are the first of their kind for Africa
If you are a project manager with a strong interest or background in humanitarian or development work, this is a great opportunity to make a real difference to mobile phone usage, uptake and information in Ghana and Mozambique.
You'll be driving innovation and never-seen-before projects that will create positive change and impact the lives of real people. With better data, governments can provide better services, better protect their citizens and better serve their humanitarian needs.
Your Role
As the Project Manager, you will be tasked with driving the delivery of the Ghana and Mozambique mobile data projects, ensuring effective solutions are provided on time and to budget.
Working closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) for each project, you will utilise project management techniques and support PIs in user engagement, defining use cases and managing changes to the project scope.
As part of your role, you will be required to make multiple trips to both Ghana and Mozambique.
About You
To be considered as a Project Manager, you will need:
- A background or strong interest in humanitarian and/or development work or similar (such as experience in public health or social economics)
- Project management experience
- To be able to work collaboratively with a skilled team to deliver successful projects
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience of forming relationships with stakeholders in LMICs
- To be enthusiastic about travelling to, and spending time in, both Mozambique and Ghana
The ability to speak Portuguese would be highly beneficial to your application. Given the technical aspects of the projects, a technical or analytical background would also be an advantage, as would experience of project managing data analysis projects.
An MSc or PhD in a scientific discipline would be equally desirable.
Other organisations may call this role Project Manager, Humanitarian Project Manager, Development Project Manager, Country Development Project Manager, or Humanitarian PM.
The closing date for this role is the 3rd November 2019.
