At the Forward Trust we are recruiting Drug and Alcohol practitioners for our substance misuse service at HMP Elmley.
The role
As a Drug and Alcohol practitioner you will be working within an integrated healthcare framework to provide support to drug and alcohol users aged 18 and over in a custodial setting. Services are designed to deliver Psychosocial Drug and Alcohol Interventions including a range of group work packages as well as structured one to one's, proactive release planning and relapse prevention/harm reduction strategies. You will be working with a team of experienced practitioners and clinicians in a fast paced remand prison.

Location
As the role is located within HMP Elmley, a busy local remand Prison on the Isle of Sheppey, which will require you to be flexible, and good time management skills are essential. As it is located in a prison you will need to pass prison security vetting as part of your on-boarding. Role responsibilities for the Drug and Alcohol Practitioner:
* Provide support to drug and alcohol users aged 18 and over who are addicted to, or misusing, substances
* Deliver psychosocial drug and alcohol interventions for offenders coming into prison that are identified as having an alcohol or drug problem
* Deliver structured 1:1 and group-work sessions
* Provide appropriate harm reduction advice and guidance, assessments, and care plans
* Motivate service users to take steps towards their own recovery
* Contribute to the targets set by The Forward Trust and the local commissioners
* Create and maintain co-operative working relationships with other partner agencies
In order to compliment clinical provision you may be required to complete second signatory and oral swab testing.
Knowledge (essential):
A thorough understanding of the issues facing substance misusers and the recovery Agenda.
Knowledge (desirable):
A thorough knowledge of and commitment to the 12-step process of recovery from addiction. (Desirable)
Skills and Experience (essential):
Working experience within the substance misuse services, carrying out comprehensive assessments and the design and implementation of SMART care plans, delivering structured interventions to service users and experience of facilitating therapeutic groups. Using motivational interviewing techniques in both 1:1 and group settings and Strong IT skills.
Skills and Experience (desirable):
Personal experience of addiction/imprisonment (Addicts in recovery should have at least 3 years clean time. Ex-prisoners should have been released at least 5 years ago).
Previous experience of working within a prison setting.
Qualifications: A diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent / Any qualification in substance misuse/ Nursing qualifications
