Housekeeper & Guest Relations Assistant

Job Description 

  • Place of Work: Central Cambridge, U.K
  • Pay: £12 per hour
  • Hours of work: 15 to 30 hours a week (depending on the time of year). Work includes weekends.

Purpose of Job:

To undertake the full range of duties commensurate with preparing, presenting and maintaining the company’s residential properties for the convenience and comfort of short-term guests.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Prepare accommodation for occupancy including making beds. Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities. Stock and maintain supply cupboards and general tidying and cleaning duties such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, windows, communal areas (ovens, work-tops, pantry, carpets…).
  2. Assist guests with all check-in and check-out arrangements and luggage. Provide advice and guidance about transport options (taxis, trains and buses) and the local area.
  3. Help resolve difficulties and problems facing guests; be on stand-by to provide a call-out service to attend to emergencies and any other ad hoc support.
  4. Provide front-of-house support by receiving and responding to emails and telephone inquiries (when necessary); welcoming guests; checking them in; showing rooms; assisting with luggage; orienting them with programme arrangements and the various rules and regulations; briefing them about health, safety and fire emergencies; and resolving queries and questions.
  5. Maintain stock levels of bed linen and bath towels, cleaning equipment and consumables. Plan logistics and take appropriate action to avoid shortages.
  6. Clear rubbish and waste wherever it accumulates and ensure bins are emptied on a daily and weekly basis, including being collected by the local council in compliance with the company’s recycling policy.
  7. Undertake basic grounds-person and gardening duties including weeding beds, clearing leaves, sweeping paths, trimming hedges and dead-heading plants.
  8. Undertake minor repairs and maintenance duties to include replacing light-bulbs, fixing breakages, changing fuses, un-blocking drains and occasional painting and decorating.
  9. Uphold, protect and promote Reach Cambridge’s core values, protocols and standard operating procedures so that students, teachers, guests and suppliers respect and enjoy working with the company.
  10. Undertake all other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the knowledge, skills and experience of this role as may be requested by the chief operating officer or one of their nominees.

  • MS Outlook, Mail, Word and Excel to a basic level & good telephone manner
  • Good levels of energy, resilience and enthusiasm
  • Self-motivated with a willingness and ability to work independently
  • Flexible – willing to work weekends and evenings when required 
  • A valid clean U.K driving licence and car (highly desirable)
  • Physically fit and agile
