West Mercia Youth Justice Service operates across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire, covering a youth population of approximately (phone number removed) (10 to 17 year olds). The service is hosted by the Office of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the four local authorities and is currently the only youth justice service in such a hosting arrangement nationally. Services are delivered from multi-disciplinary teams aligned to the four local authority areas.

An opportunity has arisen for a half time Youth Justice Officer - Education Training and Employment for our team based in Telford. This post primarily provides specialist assessments in relation to education, training & employment needs, and, in partnership with WMYJS staff, identify where these needs may be a factor in offending and risk of re-offendingfor young people on the service caseload. The post holder may also be required to contribute to other youth justice service tasks from time to time.

The successful candidate will either hold a professional qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Education, Probation or Health or a degree or level 6 qualification in Youth Justice, Law, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Social Policy or Health-related and at least 2 years' experience of work with children, young people and families or a Youth Justice Qualification at Foundation degree level or above and at least 2 years' experience in a Youth Justice Team with case management responsibility. It is essential that candidates for the post have previous experience of supporting young people in, or to access, education, training or employment provision.
