Our client is a global leader in glass manufacturing in three business areas: Architectural, Automotive and Technical Glass.

Their mission is to be the global leader in innovative high-performance glass and glazing solutions, working safely and ethically.

They now have an opportunity available for a suitably qualified individual, with a Mechanical Engineering background, to join the Manufacturing Team at Watson Street Works, St. Helens, reporting to the Manufacturing Controller.

Offering mechanical expertise on a 6 set continuous shift system, you will be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of process operations, including associated plant, buildings, services and vehicles, however, you will be expected to operate across all manufacturing areas, including production disciplines, when required.

Carrying out routine maintenance, inspection and calibration, fault finding and diagnostics in emergency breakdown or planned situations, you will modify and improve plant, identify and eliminate hazards and supervise trainees; administering maintenance systems and completing training and improvement activities.  It will be necessary to work unsupervised for extended periods and therefore individuals should be capable of identifying, generating and managing their own workload, working flexibly across all functions.  This will involve effective communication between shift and day engineering.

Candidates will have completed a recognised craft apprenticeship and will have obtained HNC/HND or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.  They must be able to work co-operatively as part of a team, including instructing/coaching colleagues in areas of own expertise, and be prepared to work flexibly in order to respond to changing demands.  A detailed knowledge of a range of specialised equipment and processes including the associated safety requirements and emergency procedures is required, and appropriate training will be given where necessary.

Salary is £30,916 which equates to 95% of Grade, with progression to 100% after 12 months. Additional annual payments include: 6 set shift allowance (£7,168), Condition Pay D (£1,632) and Single Rota Cover B (£705)
