A long established and well respected global print and packaging, e-commerce and supply chain provider with production and distribution facilities in the North of England, Scotland and the Midlands.

We are an international company servicing clients globally. We are an ambitious, client focused and forward-thinking company, providing our customers with an increasingly wide range of publishing, print and packaging services, across all media platforms.

We work closely with clients as a strategic partner, helping them optimise and develop the processes critical to their business through our core services of print and packaging, supply chain and e-commerce.

Job Specification

To lead the HR function, supporting 190+ employees across four UK sites, providing HR advice and support, administering the day to day function of the department, handling complex HR queries and helping to drive change within the Company. To provide pragmatic and commercially focused solutions to people issues that will meet business objectives, creating an environment of positive people management, ensuring the acquisition, development and retention of staff.

Duties

To manage the complete recruitment process, providing advice and interviewing assistance to the management team, placing advertisements, negotiating with recruitment consultants, managing talent and succession planning, and taking responsibility for recruitment drives and campaigns.

To lead on reorganisations, union relationships, legal matters and employee engagement, reward and benefits.

To harmonise HR practices and policies across all departments ensuring that they are in line with Elanders mission statement, values and current employment law. Ensuring that they are continuously representative of best practice, and all policy changes are effectively communicated to staff.

To maintain and update the Company Handbook, reviewing existing policies and implementing new policies where necessary.

To maintain and develop the performance management and appraisal system, including goal setting and measures of performance, providing advice to the directors, managers and employees.

To monitor employee absence levels, following the Company's absence management procedures, working to disciplinary and capability guidelines where required.

To manage all the Occupational Health requirements of the business, and seeing to the general welfare of staff.

To lead on all disciplinary and grievance matters across UK sites, conducting investigations and hearings, determining and recommending employee relations best practice to Company management. Aiming where possible to establish a positive employer-employee relationship.

To identify training and development needs in conjunction with management, agreeing a plan within the training budget, and working on the delivery and achievement of the programme with managers and supervisors.

To act as an internal advisor to the business, recommending relevant HRM solutions where appropriate, advising senior and line managers on all aspects of managing people. To also be involved in the senior management team, working with business heads to drive the Company forward.

To provide ongoing and periodic reporting and MI to the Board and senior managers, alerting them of any significant issues and to allow the tracking of strategic goal accomplishment.

To keep up to date with developments in employment law, ensuring the business is always aware of the impact of new and current legislation. Leading on the compliance of HR best practice and policy in the way work is carried out.

To build strong, professional relationships with departmental management teams and employees.

To introduce day to day HRM systems and processes at a strategic and operational level, coordinating and maintaining people data systems and electronic databases, taking ownership of HR data, ensuring quality and following best practice guidelines in accordance with Data Protection legislation.

To work closely with the FD in setting the strategic direction and function of the department, adding to the business strategy on both HR and wider business plans. Delivering HR strategic objectives, and leading on the development of departmental goals and KPIs.

To support the FD in the management of the company vehicle fleet; and perform any other duties as directed by the Finance Director.

Experience and Skills

A Graduate calibre or CIPD qualified and/ or equivalent experience, or currently working towards qualification.

Strong generalist HR experience gained from a manufacturing or industrial environment, across a range of complex HR issues. Previous exposure to unionised environments is essential.

Up to date legislative knowledge on employment law, with demonstrable experience in managing redundancy.

Ability to work flexibly, and be prepared for UK travel across multi-sites.

Proficiency in data management and best practice in the production of MI.

Ability to communicate and influence across all levels, to build rapport quickly, with interpersonal skills to liaise equally with the Board and Shop Floor.

A professional and commercial approach to HR, confidence and competence in decision making and the tenacity to drive change.
