Key duties Specialist Disability Advisor:

1. To provide specialist support to disabled people with physical and learning difficulties and those with long term conditions in Solihull to ensure they are enabled to access all services they need to remain independent, safe, healthy and active members of their local communities.

2. To explore individual and family situations through the process of holistic assessment where appropriate.

3. To provide high quality, impartial information, advice and casework support to clients, both adults and children, which complies with MATRIX and other DRC standards - supporting and empowering them to address presenting issues including housing, welfare / benefit entitlements, debt, personal budgets, access to statutory and other services and social exclusion.

4. To provide specialist support for children including information, advice and signposting and DLA casework.

5. To ensure all information and resources are up to date and are available in a range of formats which meet individual needs.

6. To support the effective operation of the Community Hub at the Core through the provision of front line hub advice and the provision of specialist casework and appointments complying with all operation policies and procedures as appropriate.

7. To undertake home visits and appointments at Community Facilities as appropriate.

8. To develop positive working relationships with partner agencies, working across sectors and ensuring referral pathways are strong, relevant and appropriate, coordinating and monitoring referrals for those most in need and deemed most vulnerable.

9. To proactively promote both DRC and the Community Advice Hub to existing and new partner organisations, and to clients themselves.

10. To maintain databases and comply with DRC and Community Advice Hub monitoring and reporting requirements.

11. To be aware of and comply with the DRC's policies and procedures including health and safety, GDPR and data protection, safeguarding and equal opportunities.

12. To ensure their own continuing professional development by attending local networks and groups, undergoing training, attending conferences and seminars and by any other appropriate means.

13. To work effectively as part of the team and be flexible and responsive to changing client needs, DRC and Community Hub requirements.

14. Undertake any other delegated duties as may be required from time to time, which are commensurate with the nature and grading of the post.

Person Specification Specialist Disability Advisor.

* Good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including Maths and English.

* IAG level 3 in advice and guidance or equivalent Independent Advocacy Qualification.

* Previous experience working in an advice/support/legal setting with disabled people or other social excluded groups with complex needs

* Proven track record of advocating on behalf of socially excluded groups supporting them to achieve positive outcomes in relation to housing, welfare, debt, personal budgets, access to statutory and other services

* Previous experience of supporting clients to complete welfare benefit claim forms including but not limited to Universal Credit, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payments (PIP) etc.

* Experience of developing and maintaining client case files and managing a client caseload

* A good working knowledge and understanding of housing, welfare benefits, personal budgets, education, health and social care legislation and its impact on the rights and entitlements of disabled people
