Job description
In this Firmware Engineering role, you will be asked to support developments on new firmware designs and upgrades to existing firmware designs within the Land and Naval LOB, working on either Land EW equipment or Vehicle Mission Systems.

Skills, qualifications & knowledge

Required
Ability to create innovative VHDL based FPGA designs and undertake advanced verification techniques using VHDL
Working knowledge of current FPGA technologies and their associated toolsets - ideally Xilinx
Proficient in the analysis of system level requirements and deriving detailed FPGA requirements
Knowledge of methodical approaches across the full FPGA design lifecycle
Skilled in de-bugging of FPGA designs
Ability to define complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route
Communicating effectively with different disciplines both verbally and in written form
Comfortable working in a multi disciplinary team, liaising with Systems, Hardware and Software engineers from requirements definition through to product release
Communicating effectively with different disciplines both verbally and in written form
Advantageous
Able to peer review FPGA designs
Experienced with Xilinx Vivado
Experienced with Mentor Graphics FPGA development tools including HDL Designer, ModelSim / Questa and Precision is an advantage.
Experience of implementing processor cores in FPGAs
Knowledge of the hardware side of designing FPGA boards
Basic knowledge of writing software (eg in C) to aid testing and integration
Knowledge of common video standards and transport methods or Electronic Warfare techniques

Key responsibility areas
You will be responsible for the creation of FPGA designs using VHDL and working within a structured FPGA design framework.

You will also be responsible for devising and implementing all necessary design verification tests and supporting documentation and following of the Firmware development process.
