One of our partner Primary schools located in Cardiff (CF5) are looking to appoint a Behaviour Mentor/Learning Support Assistant to work one-to-one with a pupil in Year 5 with Social and Emotional Mental Health, affecting his concentration, social skills and approach to unexpected situations.
Though the school are happy to consider applicants with minimal experience in a school setting and/or working with children with challenging behaviour, it is crucial for candidates to be very patient, nurturing, relentless and have the ability to cope with difficult situations such as reluctance to take part in school work/activities and confrontational behaviour.
This role would suit someone with either a Sports/Coaching background, Special Needs knowledge, Psychology graduates (preferably with Applied Behaviour Analysis) or who has worked in a Care setting. The suitable candidate will build a bond with the pupil, resulting to a trusting relationship that will help him grow, gain confidence in himself and reach the academic and well-being expectations of a pupil going to Year 6 next year.
Applicants must have flexibility to trial and to potentially start on short notice should they be successful, and be willing to work sporadically for the first 2 to 3 weeks of the role, in order to ease the pupil into a routine little by little.
The position is ongoing until the end of the academic year, with the potential to turn into a permanent contract for the right person. You will working Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 3:30pm.
For further information, please contact Zoe in the South Wales Primary branch of Teaching Personnel, or email your up to date CV as well as a cover note to .
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see (url removed)/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
