We are an exciting, fast-paced, market-leading company in the brewing, food and drinks industry.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled chemist to work in a progressive and forward thinking company within our experienced Flavours Team.

You will be a player/manager who will be managing a team of experienced scientists in our new state of the art laboratories. You will have 100% commitment and appetite to work in a small company environment and can hit the ground running.

To be successful in this position, you will have a degree (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline and ideally some experience of working in the food and beverage industry.

Strong laboratory and analytical skills coupled with good attention to detail is critical to success in this role. You should also have some knowledge of quality standards e.g. ISO9001, ISO17025 and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).

You must also be able to show that you have some management background and are able to communicate with senior people within the food and drinks sector. Sensory knowledge of flavours is also an advantage.

We manufacture sensory flavour standards for training people how to recognise positive and negative flavours within a range of products.

Role scope
In this Flavours Management position, you will be responsible for:

* Management and support the HACCP plan

* The development, re-writing and updating all aspects of the company's Quality Management System for the Flavours team

* Ensure that products are manufactured to Customer, Company and Legal requirements

* Actively promote and tailor flavour products and services to achieve budgeted sales and support the sales team

* Organise and control all aspects of the flavours operation

* Co-ordinate activities in research, formulation, packaging and analysis

* Formulation of flavour complexes

* Supervise the ordering and delivery of supplies

* Supervise the testing and calibration of equipment to ensure optimum results

* Monitor outputs and keep records of workflow and usage of supplies

* Delegate work within the Team

* Be actively involved in the development and introduction of new products and services to encourage the growth of the business

* Maintaining our ISO accreditation within the flavours team - ISO 9001 and ISO 17025

Key responsibilities
Responsible for planning / co-ordinating the production of flavour products for client orders on time

* Facilitate and guide chemists, scientists and technicians to achieve production targets

* Support the team with actions and technical issues

* Development of new methods/improvements in the laboratory

Production of flavour standards (management of all associated tasks for):

* Packaging of flavour standards into capsules and capsulets

* Follow the GMP procedures at all times

* Accurately weigh the capsules and ensure that products are made consistently to a high standard

* Packaging of flavour standards into their primary packaging

GC and GCMS analysis (management of all associated tasks for):

* Analysis of flavour complexes by GC and GC-MS

* Maintaining the schedule for analysis of batches of flavour complexes

* Method development and improvement of existing methods in line with the requirements of ISO 17025

* Method validation in line with requirements of ISO 17025

General practices

* Good health and safety practices

* Ensure all certificates are filed relating to any component parts

* Ensure that all calibration documents are filed correctly

* Monitor and order consumables used for flavour production

* Contribution to HACCP for all items within flavour production

* Work as part of the flavour production team on any tasks associated with their production from formulation through to packaging
