SALARY & BENEFITS: NJC points 12 - 17, salary GBP18,173 per annum (actual) within the range GBP18,173 to GBP20,065

Our client are seeking to appoint a committed professional to join their Student Services Team. This post will continue to enhance the support available to their students to ensure that they overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
The school is an extremely successful school and are accredited with 'World Class Schools' status giving the recognition that they have moved beyond their 'Outstanding' Ofsted status and have improved student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that their students rival those of the best schools' nationally and internationally. The school is the only non-selective school in Wirral and Merseyside to have been awarded this quality mark.
THE ROLE: As a Pastoral & Academic Student Support Worker your main aim will be to work with teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate action is taken to provide specialist support for students in need and to access that support from external agencies when required. This post will require some evening working to support events such as Parents' Evenings and could require occasional home visits.
Key Duties for the Pastoral & Academic Student Support Worker role :-
Assist with student welfare in conjunction with and in the absence of Year Leaders
To take responsibility in supporting identified mentees as part of a structured programme of intervention, ensuring adequate records of student progress are maintained and communicated to parents
To assist with the enhancement of home/school communication and consult with parents as to the reasons for underachievement and strategies for support
To support the delivery of assemblies and workshops to raise aspirations and self esteem of young people e.g. motivation
Liaise with Senior Staff in relation to the implementation of study and revision action plans for students requiring support
Provide support to students, encouraging positive attitudes and behaviour in the school
Assist the Year Leaders in communicating with parents in dealing with and tackling bullying
To provide a good role model for students and develop a relationship with students, which is professional, firm, fair and caring
Provide a link between the school and external agencies - including referrals for students and families acting as lead professional and make home visits when necessary, as directed by Year Leaders and Senior Staff
THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Pastoral & Academic Student Support Worker role must have previous experience of working with young people and the ability to demonstrate improved outcomes and will ideally be educated to degree level (or equivalent) but this is not essential if candidates have a proven record in working with children and young people who may be facing various challenges. Candidates must be empathetic and knowledgeable about the challenges facing young people today and will need to have a proven record in working with young people with additional needs, as well as the ability to identify potential barriers to learning and jointly engage in strategies to overcome these by providing a range of activities to support learning. In addition candidates will need to be able to effectively build good relationships with and relate to a wide range of young people and families/carers with different backgrounds, be a well organised self-motivator who can work under pressure, and also will have the ability to work with all staff and Senior Management and a range of external agencies.
Due to the nature of the post, candidates will need to also possess excellent written and spoken English, and will need to live within commutable distance to Wallasey (Liverpool), Merseyside.
Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Pastoral & Academic Student Support Worker role :-
Previous experience working with children and young people with additional needs essential
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build effective working relations between students, parents, staff and external agencies
Ability to work under pressure and excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks essential
Must have the ability to engage constructively with, and relate to, a wide range of young people and families/carers with different backgrounds
Excellent organisational and IT skills required
Must live within commutable distance to Wallasey (Liverpool), Merseyside
