Role Mission

BARB (The Broadcasters' Audience Research Board) is responsible for the measurement of the number of people watching television in the UK, on behalf of the television companies and the advertising industry.

Viewing estimates are obtained from panels of television owning households representing the viewing behaviour of the 24+ million households within UK. The panels are regionally representative of ITV & BBC. In each panel home, electronic "Peoplemeters" are attached to each TV. Each meter automatically identifies and collects information about the programme and channel that the panel member is viewing. This information is collected via GPRS each night and is then used to derive the ratings data for the BARB subscribers. Ratings data are available the next day, 365 days a year.

The BARB QC team are responsible for checking the overnight ratings data prior to industry publication and checking the accuracy of the data collected from individual households to ensure that it meets the required quality thresholds.

This role will bring the successful candidate into contact with a wide range of teams working across the BARB services as well as the Kantar Media team more generally.

Responsibilities

Evaluating the data received from BARB homes and taking a decision on whether there any potential faults that need to be followed up.

Reviewing data collected from new homes and taking a decision on whether a home has passed all the necessary checks and criteria to become a live home on the active panel.

Liaising with internal Panel Admin Team and external field engineers to progress issues precluding homes from reporting accurately.

Helping to provide information and guidance to field engineers on the source of problems causing issues with data quality.

Using a wide of tools and dashboards to investigate issues that might have a detrimental impact on data quality.

Perform investigations to understand any unusual trends or patterns of viewing behaviour observed in daily results.

Monitor the performance and efficiency of other members of the BARB team including technicians and data entry

Ensuring that all procedures are carried out in accordance with the client specification

Undertake QC activities within specified timeframes to ensure that contracts Service Level Agreements are satisfied.

Capabilities

Experience of using excel generally but must understand how to perform V-Lookups and PIVOT tables.

Previous experience of building databases using Access would be advantageous

Experience of running statistical data analyses in a previous role or to satisfy an academic qualification

Ability to work alone and prioritise workload

A confident person and with good communications skills

Would need to be prepared to work unsociable hours on a rota basis at weekends
