Location

Based in Burges Salmon's Bristol office we are a 2 minutes stroll from Temple Meads train station and have easy access to some of the best attractions the city has to offer; the theatre, shopping, restaurants, museums and art galleries. Burges Salmon operates across offices in Bristol, Edinburgh and London.

Team

You will form part of an award winning, multi-disciplinary real estate team working collaboratively with your colleagues to deliver the right solutions for our clients.

Real Estate

The core non-contentious Rural Property team comprises two partners and two senior associates working with a dedicated team of solicitors and legal executives.

We are property lawyers who form a key part of the firm's multidisciplinary Food and Farming specialism, which advises food retailers, distributors, processors and producers alongside landowners and farmers. We work closely with our private client and dispute resolution teams as well as with lawyers in allied areas such as banking, planning, environment, energy and corporate law.

Work

Recognised for their sophisticated level of expertise, the team's work encompasses all areas of rural life and business, from lifestyle buyers of country houses to historic landowners managing estates and well established rural businesses expanding into new projects. We have a national practice spread across Scotland as well as England and Wales, dealing regularly with all of the major rural land agents and other multipliers.

We act on the sale, purchase, leasing and mortgaging of farms, estates, country houses and other rural properties and advise on a wide range of issues arising from the ownership, occupation and management of rural land and buildings.

Clients include significant rural landowners including The Crown Estate and charities, such as National Trust and The Woodland Trust, the Environment Agency, as well as numerous private owners and occupiers.

"Clients are quick to praise the team's efficiency, responsiveness and ability to provide clear and practical solutions to complex legal matters." (Chambers 2018)

Requirements

We look for individuals who have developed themselves and their capabilities, coupled with strong commercial and legal potential. You will be a strong team player, able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively and demonstrate a willingness to learn and be self-motivated. You will have recent and relevant work experience working with both private clients and corporate/institutional clients and their agents. Detailed knowledge of agricultural property law is not required, as training will be provided.
