Communications / Press officer

*3-6 month ongoing contract*

An exciting new role has come up in a local authority in Essex for a Communications Press Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Use the media and other channels to promote a positive image of the council and explain its policies to residents, businesses, visitors, employees, tourists and other key audiences.
  • Promote a positive and open working relationship with the media.
  • Assist the production of core council publications, including the District Diary, by providing content.
  • Assist with the promotion of Council campaigns, both internally and externally.
  • Assist with internal communications and the Council's website.
  • To research, write and publish news releases and respond to media enquiries in line with Council procedures and quality guidelines.
  • Develop contacts throughout the local media, but also trade and national press.
  • To ensure a pro-active approach to communications through a positive use of forward planning and regular meetings with members and officers, as directed by the Head of Communications.
  • Carry out marketing communications tasks for internal and external clients as agreed with the management team.
  • To agree clear objectives with clients on communications campaigns and monitor outcomes making proposals for improvements.
