Are you an entrepreneurial, influential and collaborative individual who is able to combine thinking and doing to lead complex programmes, build strong relationships and networks, get the best out of teams and have a can-do, flexible approach?

If so, join Nesta’s fast-paced and high-performance People Powered Results team as a Senior Programme Manager, where you will take a lead role in building our presence, developing new partnerships and leading the delivery of our future work across Wales.

About Nesta and People Powered Results

Nesta is an innovation foundation. For us, innovation means turning bold ideas into reality and changing lives for the better.  We use our expertise, skills and funding in areas where there are big challenges facing society. Nesta is based in the UK and supported by a financial endowment.  We work with partners around the globe to bring bold ideas to life to change the world for good.

Through Y Lab (our partnership with Cardiff University in Wales) we deliver a portfolio of work in Wales, designed to support innovation in public services and to understand the barriers and drivers to public service innovation. There is an appetite for new innovation methods, such as the 100 day challenge, to be tested in Wales and we are looking for someone to take the lead on this, working in partnership with Y Lab colleagues and with support from the central People Powered Results team.

People Powered Results is part of Nesta’s Health Lab, whose focus is to explore the challenge of how to support a population living with more long-term health conditions, when the health and care system is under serious financial pressure. The work across the Lab addresses this challenge by looking for better ways for people to remain healthy – drawing on their own energy and ideas, as well as the insights of medical science and new digital tools - an agenda we call ‘People Powered Health’.

About this exciting opportunity

You will focus on managing the design and delivery of a portfolio of People Powered Results programmes, plus scoping and developing projects and opportunities with senior leaders and designing complex, place-based change efforts in a collaborative way. You will also be expected to take on line management responsibility, plus:

  • Design, plan and facilitate workshops using rapid testing, user-centred design and systems thinking
  • Coach and support individuals and teams through intensive periods of change and building capacity in others to do the same
  • Build productive relationships, partnerships and networks with stakeholders
  • Ensure that projects are communicated effectively, identify target audiences and develop strategies to engage and influence them

What we are looking for

You will have a deep understanding of how change happens within complex systems and a sound knowledge of health and social care – or the ability to learn quickly and apply experience from related fields. You will also have proven experience of designing and delivering innovation or improvement programmes in a public service context, business development, and change and innovation methods and tools.

A natural collaborator, partnership-builder and outstanding communicator, you will also be an effective leader with the ability to support and develop people and teams to achieve their potential. Strong facilitation, problem-solving and coaching skills (including workshop design and delivery) are vital, while the ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous.

Closing date: 30 September 2019 at 8am.
First interviews will take place via video conference link on 9 October 2019. Second interviews will take place on 16 October in Cardiff.
