Senior Workshop Technical Instructor
BAND 5 SENIOR WORKSHOP TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR
FULL TIME – 37.5 HOURS
Secure and Complex Care OT service (Tamarind Clinic site)
We have a vacancy for a Senior Workshop Technical Instructor who is looking for an opportunity to join our team. This is an exciting, challenging yet rewarding time for the Secure and complex care OT team as it continues to implement its action plan, to support the recovery of our Service Users. The post holder will be responsible for the management and running of the onsite workshop in the Therapy Centre. They will be delivering clinical interventions, supporting our Service Users to work towards their goals set in collaboration with their Occupational Therapist. Interventions may be 1:1 or group work and there is the opportunity to lead on related projects. These interventions will primarily occur in the Workshop, but projects may occur elsewhere in the building and the post holder will have the support of a highly motivated therapy team.
The post will require a flexible approach to working across the whole of the Secure and Complex Care Programme although the post is currently based at Tamarind Clinic, cross site working may be requested and development work is encouraged to engage the whole of the SCC OT teams. This covers geographical areas of Rubery, Erdington and Bordesley Green.
The service users we care for often have very complex mental health needs, and at times may display very challenging behaviour. Therefore, staff will be required to demonstrate a range of skills including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, resilience, and critical self-reflection skills. The individual would need to have the ability to manage their own reactions and responses to challenging behaviours effectively. You will be able to promote the philosophy of Occupational Therapy and contribute to evaluating the outcomes of the service. You will be expected to work flexibly over seven days as service user need determines.
Tamarind Clinic is a 89 bedded male Medium Secure Unit in the East of the city, providing a comprehensive multi-professional treatment package to mental health service users with a forensic history. Supervision and management will be provided by the Lead OT.
An annual development review process is in place to support CPD.
