Assistant Chief Sub-Editor
The National Sundays production team is looking to recruit an assistant chief sub-editor based in the offices at Canary Wharf. We are looking for an experienced sub-editor who is capable of ensuring our stories and headlines are accurate, well-written, entertaining, informative and error-free as well as someone who is able to assist in the management of a team of production staff.
The successful candidate will be a natural within a fast working and sometimes high pressured environment and will be well experienced in this particular field.
The position is part-time (30 hours a week, Thursday/Friday/Saturday) working across the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday People reporting to the chief sub.

Within this role you will assist in the management of a team of production staff and be responsible for overseeing the production of pages and their content. You will be responsible for ensuring our stories and headlines are accurate, well-written, entertaining, informative and error-free.
As our assistant chief sub-editor you will also be responsible for assisting in the management of a team of sub-editors. Briefing sub-editors on stories then revising subbed copy and headlines to ensure it is accurate, informative, entertaining and follows house style. You will also be required to sub raw copy.
The successful candidate might also be called upon to carry out various administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the department, as well as act up when chief sub or deputy chief sub is off.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have exceptional tabloid headline writing and copy-editing skills, an eye for detail and the ability to spot mistakes and errors. Have good organisational and interpersonal skills. Be a good communicator and an effective team worker. Have a positive approach and a commitment and determination to hit high standards. Able and experienced in spotting and dealing with legal problems and ensuring content adheres to the law and IPSO.
