UK Programme Officer – Education Scholarships
Oxford, Oxfordshire

Want to make a positive impact helping disadvantaged individuals to gain their postgraduate education? Do you have a background in education and an exceptional eye for detail? If so, this is an incredible opportunity to take on a rewarding role as a UK Programme Officer.

About Us

Windle Trust International (WTI) is a well-established NGO dedicated to increasing access to, and improving, the quality of education. We support refugees and communities affected by conflict, displacement, neglect or discrimination in the East and Horn of Africa.

We manage scholarship programmes that give students from the communities we support the opportunity to study at universities and colleges in the UK and Africa. So far, we’ve supported over 1,000 students, including around 600 students at postgraduate level.

We are now looking for a UK Programme Officer to join us in Oxford and manage our UK postgraduate scholarship programme.

The Benefits

- Salary of £27,000 - £30,000 per annum
- Pension
- 22 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays plus Christmas shutdown
- Free parking
- Free tea and coffee
- Friendly offices with good public transport routes
- Join a ground-breaking charity that is increasing access to education for conflict-affected communities

This is an amazing opportunity to empower people from disadvantaged backgrounds, supporting them to progress their education and realise their full potential.

Within an open, diverse and respectful environment, you will have the chance to help us challenge poverty and inequality, giving opportunities to truly deserving candidates.

Joining a small, busy team, you’ll support students throughout the application process, during their Master’s degrees and enable their return home from their studies, keeping in contact with them once they’ve returned.

The Role

As the UK Programme Officer, you will oversee all aspects of our UK postgraduate scholarship programme.

In this important role, you will:

- Support around 15 – 20 scholars each year
- Advertise and promote our scholarships, ensuring wide reach to eligible applicants, particularly marginalised, disadvantaged and female candidates
- Oversee and take part in the selection process
- Manage logistical arrangements, including students’ visas, travel to the UK, initial orientation and students’ return once they’ve completed their studies
- Liaise with partner universities, scholarship schemes and donors on funding and scholarship arrangements
- Organise programme events
- Advise and match candidates to scholarship places

About You

To join us as a UK Programme Officer, you will need:

- Relevant experience of working in the education sector, preferably Higher Education
- A degree level qualification, ideally a master’s degree
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in supporting and encouraging others
- Strong IT skills
- Strong administrative and organisational skills with attention to detail
- Experience working in a cross-cultural situation or environment

Experience of any of the following would be beneficial: administering or managing scholarship programmes, advising or tutoring students with written work or working with international students.
