MEDICAL NOTES SUMMARISER/SCANNER

Main role responsibilities:

  • Reviewing medical records and letters, producing an accurate summary of the patients medical history in a timely manner.
  • Scanning documents and typing in readiness for uploading onto patients electronic file.
  • Read coding the information highlighted on Docman (the electronic document handling system) before forwarding the document on as necessary.
  • Reading basic clinical letters, determining if there is a need to be seen by a Clinician based on structured protocols.
  • Assisting in other admin duties as required from time to time.
  • Contribute to the practice to achieve Information Governance requirements.

Knowledge/Experience/Skill requirements

  • GCSE or equivalent in English Language - Desirable
  • Knowledge of medical terminology - Essential
  • Experience of medical computer read coding - Essential 
  • Resilience to workplace stress, pressures and deadlines - There will be frequent occasions where you may be handling both your own workload and covering a colleagues workload due to illness, annual leave etc..
  • Analytical thinking - Desirable: the ability to pick up upon a detail that seems incorrect and to question this.
  • Excellent attendance record - Essential: your role, as well as keeping abreast of your own work, will be to support the rest of your team
  • Trustworthiness - You will be entrusted with patient information, some of which is highly sensitive. You will be required to be honest in your timekeeping and absences.
  • Accurately interpreting medical records to provide a computer summary of a patients medical history. Re-checking of any medical summaries prepared in previous practices Attributes necessary:-

  • Inputting vital information correctly - You will be adding important information to patient records, such as when their next smear is due or what vaccinations a child has had
  • Read coding information from letters as directed by Doctors/Nurses and other staff Attributes necessary:-

Salary: Full time (37 1/2 hours) @ £9.71 p/h
