Lead Data Analyst - About the role
Supporting various functions within the business on specialist data and reporting needs
Translating and validating client data
Producing data analyses and reports
The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to lead workstreams within the team, to carry out checks on work completed and to drive the improvement of tools and processes. They will also take part in cross team projects.
Lead Data Analyst - Key duties
Own the data management responsibilities in relation to the business
Lead process and tool improvements (spreadsheets, VBA, databases, systems) used for maintaining the accuracy of data
Ensure client and internal data is used effectively to efficiently meet valuation and other reporting requirements
Manage the contractual processes required within the team
Ensure results of investigations/projects are appropriately presented or fed back to relevant stakeholders
Liaise with other departments to ensure the right balance is achieved between the speed of delivery and scope of work required
Participate in cross team projects
Ensure that high level objectives within the team are met
Train members of staff and encourage knowledge sharing within the team
Coordinate the extraction of data and ensure it meets the requirements of the end user
Work independently or in various teams of mixed disciplines, as required, to deliver the team's objectives
Work closely with colleagues across the group, as appropriate, to support group objectives.
Manage processes to obtain maximum value from the available data
Check data cleansing, profiling, mapping and mining
Liaise with IT professionals and where appropriate coordinate IT projects directly
Manage own work priorities, team priorities and projects in a highly organised way
Ensure data used in various workstreams is up to date and of good quality
Report to senior management on progress of projects
Produce high quality written and numerical material appropriate for its purpose.
Meet deadlines, deliver on promises, and manage internal / external customers' expectations.
Proactively support the positive development of group through contributing ideas
Plus any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role.
Lead Data Analyst - Key requirements
Good track record of data analysis and data management skills
Experience of Pension/Annuity business
Demonstrable experience of working with relational databases e.g. Oracle
Microsoft Excel, Access (or other database)
Experience using SQL
Ability to identify the bigger picture of what the team is doing to maximise efficiency
High level of numerical and analytical skills
Ability to manage team members and specific projects
Experience of Life Reinsurance Products
Worked with Actuaries
Experience of performing data audits
Experience working on IT projects
Experience in reviewing SQL code
Technical / commercial understanding of reinsurance business
A mathematical, computer science related degree or equivalent.
