Data Governance and Management Manager

In the Enterprise Data team, you'll act as a champion for all data governance & management related activities across M&G Prudential. This position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, as well as connecting the data to business processes, both at the Enterprise and Business area level, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Governance:

    • As part of the Enterprise Data team, develop the Data Governance Framework that can be adopted across the Business.

    • Work with key business & IT stakeholders together to identify key data challenges, act as an approver for changes to data or new data being introduced.

    • Define, analyse and report on metrics and controls to ensure adherence to data policies, standards and procedures.

    • Develop structures, roles, and responsibilities that outline and enforce rules of engagement, decision rights, and the accountabilities for the effective management of data and information assets across the business.

    • Ensure compliance with key data standards (such has GDPR/Privacy)

  • Policies and standards: Establishing and enforcing data policies, standards, and principles for the use, development and introduction of new data.

  • Data Architecture: Collaboration with Data Architecture teams to ensure alignment across Data models and the supporting Data Catalogue and business glossaries.

  • Data Catalogue:Work as part of a team to develop the Data Catalogue and work with business and change teams to ensure this is refreshed on a periodic basis and when new change initiatives are delivered impacting data. Provide Data Governance standards for defining data definitions.

  • Data Lineage: Work with Business Data Domain Data Stewards with standards and processes to map data value lifecycles and identifying controls to apply against this movement of data.

  • Data Quality Management: Work as part of the team to define a Data Quality strategy and Framework, introducing controls that can be adopted across the enterprise. Work with business teams to embed the DQ framework. Establish the maturity levels, metrics and control activities. Develop a DQ reporting dashboard, to review and identify DQ issues and assign appropriate remediation activities.

  • Enterprise Data Platform Steward: Enforcing controls for all data within the Enterprise data platform (Data lake on Azure), determining its format, security requirements, ownership, quality and value/purpose. Act as a primary data steward controlling data coming in and out, ensuring the relevant levels of access and controls.

  • Data Management & Business Process: Ensure data governance can be embedded into business processes, map data lineage into business processes, & advocate and drive use of data management tools to support this.

  • Training & Comms: Raise awareness and drive the importance of data (in line with the Data Vision and Strategy) across the organisation. Organise relevant training and define a communications strategy for all Data governance related activities.

  • Change Governance: Work with Change teams to embed Data Governance as part of the Change Management process, providing governance and controls on all changes to data or new data sources introduced.

You will have:

  • Detailed knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.

  • Knowledge and understanding of data management tools and cloud technologies is preferable.

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining a Data Governance Framework, or, effective Data Management at an Enterprise-wide level.

  • A strong track record of enforcing best practice. Able to combine rigour and discipline with a pragmatic approach to deliver the highest quality, cost effective solutions within set time-frames

  • Large-scale data or project management and oversight exposure

  • Senior Stakeholder Management experience
