About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Mechanical Fitter to join the team at Coulport.
You will be responsible for performing planned and preventative maintenance, defect identification, whilst providing solutions and conducting repair activities on the Explosives Handling Jetty Mechanical plant and systems' including pumps, motors and cranes. Where practical, you will also identify possible modifications to plant or systems to support the meeting of design life and the reduction of maintenance costs.
Other responsibilities include undertaking Facility Control Room (FCR) Watchkeeper duties, mentoring new staff and providing support to the Berthing Party during Berthing Operations as and when required.
What do I need to do the role?
You will hold a recognised Mechanical Fitter apprenticeship and/or have a S(N)VQ level 3 in Engineering Maintenance with a mechanical bias.
You will be an experienced Mechanical Fitter, ideally from an industrial or engineering maintenance background with a sound knowledge of Mechanical Plant and Systems, have the ability to work independently and within time constraints and experience in operations and maintenance of a plant or facility providing essential support to a nuclear submarine is advantageous.
You will also have an understanding and be familiar with a safe systems of work, and experience and knowledge of NSI and Non-NSI Maintenance Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Operating Procedures and Plant Operating Instructions.
What else do I need to know?
The post is based at RNAD Coulport located 8 miles from Faslane and 13 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.
The working hours for this role are 08:00 - 16:45 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 - 12:00 Fridays. Overtime is available at time and a half in the evenings and Saturday and double time on a Sunday.
