About the Company
Essar Oil UK is a leading UK-focussed downstream energy company whose main asset is the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the most advanced refineries in Europe and situated close to the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester.  Stanlow is a key strategic national asset, annually producing over 16% of the UK’s road transport fuels, while playing an important part in Britain’s petrochemical industry by providing key feedstocks.

The business is a major supplier in the North West and beyond with customers including most of the major retail brands operated by international oil companies and supermarkets, Manchester Airport, leading commercial airlines and the region’s trains and buses.

The business covers crude and product trading, refinery operations, HSE implementation, maintenance support and technological services, together with marketing and retail activities.  Our commitment to maintaining safe and healthy working conditions and following the best operating practices to protect the environment underpins everything we do.

We employ over 900 highly trained and loyal staff, who are at the heart of everything we do.  The company has an embedded safety culture, technically challenging work across the different parts of the business and some of the best training available in the energy industry.

The Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a process technologist.  The role holder will provide timely, fit for purpose technical assurance and advice to the site and business functions.  They will collaborate with them to support and achieve a sustainably safe, reliable, profitable and growing enterprise. Working closely with the unit operations team, economics/supply functions and discipline engineers, the process technologist will proactively identify and deal with day-to-day unit optimisation and issues.  They will also focus on longer-term improvements covering HSE, reliability, profitability and growth within the unit and across the site’s value chain, linking feedstock purchasing through to product quality.

The process technologist will be part of the Stanlow Technology team, a group of chemical engineers that supports the refinery and its associated units. The role incorporates both short and medium term front-line support to:

Feedstock (crude oil) supply including support to the Tranmere Oil Terminal
JET A-1/kerosene product supply via pipeline, road and marine distribution
Diesel/gasoil product blending and supply via pipeline, road and marine distribution
Residue and black-oils systems across the refinery

The role influences several aspects of site profitability, including maintaining margin, supporting (and identifying) margin growth and both variable and capital costs. The role provides technical assurance and directly influences process safety and reliability within the fuels supply chain.
