We are looking for an experienced IT Support Engineer to join the Department of Engineering's Information and Computing Services group (ICS). The ICS group is made up of more than 30 staff with expertise in networking, windows and Linux systems, messaging, storage, printing and software development. In addition to the central Support and Infrastructure teams ICS has dedicated IT staff embedded in academic divisions across the Department.
The post is located in the Electrical Engineering Division on the West Cambridge campus and the role holder will be responsible for providing front line IT support and maintaining local infrastructure, along with understanding and meeting the academic needs of the Division's research groups. They will be part of a newly formed West Site Divisional Support Team reporting to the Divisional IT Manager, and will work with and provide cover for other Divisional IT staff. They will often be working alone and it is essential that they be able to operate autonomously and independently. As the largest Department in the University, Engineering has a complex mix of bespoke and common, open source and enterprise systems. The post holder will be expected to balance support for end users, maintain legacy systems and develop modern and efficient IT solutions.

Divisional IT staff work closely with research, teaching and administrative staff and should have excellent technical and customer service skills, be able to respond quickly, communicate effectively and provide high levels of service. Good prioritisation and workload management skills are a must. An ideal candidate would have demonstrable skills and experience with:
- Providing IT services in an academic environment
- Delivering front line, customer facing IT support
- Troubleshooting PC and Server hardware and software issues
- Microsoft Windows (7, 10) and Office products
- Microsoft Server (2008, 2012, 2016), Active Directory and Group Policy
- Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, Fedora, Raspberry PI)
- Networking (DNS, DHCP, CISCO)
- Deploying and maintaining server-based professional software (e.g. COMSOL Multiphysics®)
Experience with Databases administration (MySQL), Web Development (PHP) and scripting (Bash, PowerShell) would be highly advantageous.
