The School of Computing and Engineering is seeking an experienced Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Design and Manufacturing Engineer to join the mechanical workshop team in designing and manufacturing components for the many active research groups within the school. The post holder will be required to fabricate research components and assemblies using the equipment in the school workshops and support technical projects within the Engineering Groups.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual, who enjoys working on their own or in a team, focusing on the tasks assigned. This is a dynamic environment and the individual must be willing to learn and develop new skills as appropriate. The post will be involved in a wide range of activities including hands-on undergraduate support through providing guidance and support to both Academic and Students.
The successful applicant will have experience/competence of using a range of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software enabling them to produce precision components. In addition, the candidate will be capable of using manual machine tools, sheet metal tools and ideally welding and fabrication equipment. The candidate will have experience of operating and maintaining technical equipment used in science labs, demonstrating excellent practical skills with a high level of attention to detail. The candidate is expected to be familiar with the relevant Health and Safety procedures linked with working practices such as 5s methodology. The ability to problem solve, communicate verbally and in writing, as well as being able to tailor an appropriate response will also be essential as the candidate will be directly working alongside Academics, Research Partners and Students.
