Further Information

A commercial placement with us could see you in a role within one of the following business teams. Whichever team you start in you'll be given real responsibility within a supportive learning environment.
  • Fuels and Lubricants Marketing

ExxonMobil is best known in the UK for our famous brands: Esso and Mobil. We are one of the largest petrol retailers in the UK. We serve around 800,000 customers every day, 365 days of the year, through a retail network of around 1,100 Esso-branded service stations.

Our business is much broader than just retail fuels though. Our Lubricants business also supplies customers in the basestocks, specialties, marine, aviation, industrial and automotive industries with products to suit a wide range of lubricant applications - some 350 finished lubricants, including an extensive range of engine oils. Possibly our most famous partnership is with Red Bull Racing, in which we provide the fuels and lubricants used by its Formula 1 Grand Prix Team.

Our Fuels and Lubricants business designs and delivers the marketing materials that support our products, manages our product portfolios, and oversees the value chain that delivers Esso-branded materials to our customers to enable them to build their businesses.
  • Commercial and Trading

Our European crude trading activities involve teams of specialist traders networking with our trading offices in Houston and Singapore to buy and sell crude oil around the world. The traders buy crude oil for our network of European, American and Asian refineries and sell crude from our upstream production locations around the world. Increasingly they also seek additional commercial trading opportunities in the fast moving, dynamic crude oil markets.
  • Gas and Power Marketing

ExxonMobil is the world's largest non-government producer and marketer of equity gas with total sales volumes over 120 billion cubic metres per year. Our European team, based in Leatherhead, accounts for about 40% of ExxonMobil's worldwide gas sales. In the UK alone, the South Hook LNG terminal (in which we are a joint venture partner) is capable of supplying over 55 million cubic metres of gas per day - approximately 30% of UK demand.

ExxonMobil sells its gas and power primarily to other energy companies, distribution companies and large industrial consumers. The work often involves lengthy and detailed negotiations with highly professional counterparties. Bringing gas, power or natural gas liquids from source to customer requires the operation and management of complex and high value assets. We oversee all aspects of the value chain to maximise overall value for the Corporation by co-ordinating all functions involved.
