Job role

The Laboratory Manager reports to the Site Technical Manager.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

* To carry out analysis on processed and finished products.

* To ensure result records are completed and any out of spec results are reported to managers. Monitoring of stock and ensuring stock rotation.

* Maintain a high level of housekeeping within the Laboratory and its associated areas.

* To undertake testing of all engineering service waters so that necessary dosage adjustments and control can be advised.

* Communicating with all levels and dealing with problems that may arise

* Provide certificates and reports for customers

* Manage the schedules for servicing, calibration and maintenance of the laboratory equipment

* Carry out internal audits within the laboratory and on occasions audits within the factory

* Manage and maintain the laboratory accreditation/GLP Motivating, training and where necessary taking the first steps in disciplinary matters to improve efficiency, productivity and raise standards within the laboratory

* Providing numerical data in spreadsheet form for various trend analysis and information purposes

* Manage staff rota to ensure adequate cover at all times

Decision Making

* Support on the course of action needed to be taken in the event of non-conforming results of microbiological or chemical analysis, taking into account all food safety, hygiene and customer requirement.

* Support on the course of action following customer audits and complaints thus meeting the needs of the customer and company.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a similar role and therefore will be aware of the expectation to be professionally mature and be able to demonstrate the ability to influence and motivate others within the business.

The jobholder leads a dedicated team, rotating over a 6-2, 2-10 and 10-6 operation. They will support the course of action needed to be taken in the event of non-conforming results of microbiological or Chemical analysis, taking into account all food safety, hygiene and customer requirement. He/she will also support on the course of action following customer audits and complaints.

They will have a real understanding of the personal attributes that are required to succeed in this position to include, tenacity, working to challenging deadlines and in a changing environment with the ability to problem solve and bring thought leadership and creative solutions using limited resources.

Background:

* Technical food manufacturing and processing understanding

* Experience of microbiological and chemical testing

* 5 years experience in the food industry.
