WasteRecruit have been tasked with finding a laboratory manager for an anaerobic digestion facility in the North East.

The facility converts primarily food waste into green energy, producing both biogas (methane) and power/heat using CHP engines.

The role involves conducting a series of tests required to support the safe and efficient operation of the anaerobic digestion plant, testing and approval of feedstock quality and supporting the production and sales of digestate or "bio-fertiliser" approved to the PAS110 industry standard. In addition, there are a number of development opportunities for improved operational development and greater plant monitoring as well as building statistical process control protocols in support of growth initiatives.

Key tasks and primary accountabilities

- Plan and perform laboratory experiments aiming at evaluating and improving the bio-fermentation process

- Analyse and report raw material quality/impurities and gas generating capacities. Using the results obtained, assist in the formulation of recommendations for further tests and/or trials together - with external partners (suppliers, customers and consulting partners)

- Provide technical solutions to internal and external customers as required

- Develop new test methods for improved raw material quality controls, improved operating efficiencies and the testing/quality controls on both inputs and outputs

- Maintain and manage all aspects of the laboratory and its equipment including good housekeeping and the identification and development of additional equipment as necessary

- Liaise closely with the commercial/business development teams

Requirements

- Chemical or analytical education (BSc or equivalent) ideally with a minimum of two years industrial experience

- Good computer skills (Windows software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

- Excellent oral and written English communication skills

- Good appreciation of project timelines, deadlines and commercial applicability

- Be able to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team or independently
