Andy File Associates Limited are working as a Recruitment Agency on behalf of our client with regards this permanent position
Our client is a unique ABS and provides a range of services which include advising on employment matters, assessing the merits of employment cases, dealing with litigated cases in the Employment Tribunal and advising on settlement agreements.
We are now looking for an Employment Lawyer to join their team who has a passion for customer service and an understanding of the work of trade unions as developing relationships with the unions will be a vital aspect of this role.
Overview of the role
Our client takes pride in delivering excellent levels of client service and keeping the client regularly updated in line with department service level agreements and individual targets.
This is a self supporting role and you will be responsible and accountable for promptly handling all matters related to assessing claims, giving both verbal and written telephone advice, running Employment Tribunal claims and negotiating, advising on settlement agreements, providing employment law training and supervising junior staff.
Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for:
• assessing employment cases and provided full advise on the merits of cases;
• running a caseload of Employment Tribunal matters,
• negotiating and advising on settlement agreements:
• handling claimant employment tribunal claims.
You will also be responsible for handling your own caseload within the employment law department at the Sheffield office and will be expected to work in a self-sufficient manner.
Key Accountabilities & Tasks
• To meet SLA's as determined by the business.
• To run employment tribunal cases with minimal supervision and comply with all Tribunal directions and deadlines.
• To review information and documentation received to assess potential claims and to advise clients as to the merits of their claims and, if appropriate, request further information / consider any further information supplied
• To advise members as to the terms and effect of settlement agreements.
• To provide telephone advice to union members and representatives.
• To create and deliver training on Employment Law to staff and the unions.
• To draft updates in the law for newsletters and bulletins.
• To attend marketing events on behalf of the firm.
• To supervise junior staff in respect of all aspects of the above
It is essential that you:
• Are able to prioritise workload and take decisions commensurate to the role
• Demonstrate an organised approach to handling a large volume of cases
• Are able to work flexibly as needed to hit set targets and deadlines
• Are able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Are able to work with a considerable amount of detailed information
• Have experience dealing with a large and varied ET caseload, advice work and settlement agreements (claimant experience is preferred) utilising a case management system
• Have previous experience working in a legal, insurance or professional environment
Technical skills and qualifications
You must have an excellent knowledge & understanding of employment law & the ET process
You will need to have strong negotiation skills
Be competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Be able to collect and assess evidence, determine prospects, provide appropriate advice to clients, and progress matters efficiently
