Are you looking for a role working with people from all backgrounds and encouraging them to volunteer and participate in the work of the National Trust in Shropshire? Are you passionate about making sure that everyone feels welcome and there are no barriers to people participating or volunteering across the National Trust properties? This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

This role is for full time hours, but we would be open to 2 potential candidates job-sharing this role.

Working in a busy and rewarding environment The North Shropshire portfolio consists of the Attingham Estate an 18th Century Mansion, Walled Garden, Pleasure Grounds & Deer Park surrounded by a 4,000 acre let estate. The visitor attraction is currently welcoming over 511,000 visitors each year making it one of the most visited in the National Trust. Sunnycroft is a red-brick villa transporting you back to the pre-First World War 'suburban villa' lifestyle is situated in Telford and welcomes 23,000 visitors a year. Our dedicated volunteer teams (in excess of 650 volunteers) are a fundamental part of bringing these special places to life and making every visitor welcome.

What you'll be doing

In this exciting role, you'll promote and plan for great volunteering and community involvement and support the creation of new offers and approaches. You'll support property colleagues to ensure they are confident and capable of working with volunteers and the local community. You'll continually develop and review our volunteering and community involvement offer, seeking to involve volunteers in all we do and grow support for our work with people who live near to our places.

Working with staff and volunteers across the portfolio you'll ensure everyone remains visitor focussed. You'll coach, mentor and support volunteer managers and team leaders across the portfolio to ensure they effectively manage their volunteer teams and provide inspirational leadership.

You'll lead and develop volunteer involvement and participation ensuring it is aligned with the volunteering journey and our ambitions for inclusivity in our teams. Always looking for consistency, quality and improvement in the volunteer experience and exploring new opportunities to work with volunteers in different ways. One team working will always be at the forefront of your mind.

Your role is central to ongoing success in further developing strong connections with our local communities, building external relationships and making opportunities across the portfolio widely available to existing and new audiences. You'll identify volunteer and partnership opportunities in Shropshire and Telford to deliver the property vision. You'll constantly evaluate related activity, developing ideas and sharing best practice, always striving to drive broader participation across the portfolio.

Building strong internal relationships with the property team will also be a key focus and you'll lead on the MyVolunteering system, internal communications, preparing property newsletters, emails, updates and meetings.

You'll lead on the volunteering, partnership and people vision and strategy in the Property Business Plan and engage with the team to help us meet our objectives. You'll assess the resources needed to achieve your plan and you'll manage your budget effectively and track performance.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role you'll need to have the following:

  • As part of the National Trusts 'Everyone Welcome' Principles you will have experience of working inclusively to welcome, connect and inspire people to make a different
  • A sound understanding of volunteering trends and previous experience in developing volunteering offers and programmes
  • A working knowledge of volunteering and community involvement principles, trends and practice, including safeguarding
  • Experience developing community involvement and partnerships to grow support
  • A track record of inspiring others with your passion for excellent service delivery
