Job Introduction

Reach plc are seeking a Digital Publishing Editor to join our central editorial team, based at our Manchester offices. Whether it's glancing over news updates on the commute home, catching up with the day's big stories whilst dinner is in the oven, or taking a few minutes to wind down before bed, our audience never stop scrolling, so we never stop writing.

While everyone else is getting ready to clock off, you'll be starting your day, ready to provide peak-time live updates and breaking news to our communities. You'll be the eyes and ears of our network across the UK from 4pm to midnight, reaching out to one of the largest audiences in UK media, ranging from one end of the country to the other.

We are Reach because it's what we do.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, OK! & New! Magazines and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 620 million newspapers, with 5 million readers of one of our brands each month. Our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with 8 billion page views per year.

We average 21 million mobile visitors - that's 60% of the entire mobile market. Each month we attract over 32 million unique visitors. That's more than our competitors. You will help us further increase our digital audience into 2019.

Key Responsibilities
  • Writing Live News content for our network of Live sites
  • Monitoring social media feeds, traffic and travel feeds, tip-off feeds and more to ensure the largest stories are covered in the evening on our Live Network
  • Providing desk-based support to process content, add additional reporting and run live updates for our newsrooms throughout the evening period to maximise audience
  • Writing copy and running live updates to SEO guidelines and industry-leading best practice
  • Writing video-led stories and picture-led stories from the biggest stories across our Network
  • Providing Live News support on pre-planned evening news events

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for senior qualified journalists who are no stranger to a newsroom. You'll thrive in a high pressure environment, and have a passion for content creation, story sourcing and social media. You'll also need to understand analytics, and how to use them in the context of content commissioning. Experienced with content management, with a good eye for a story, you'll also demonstrate a sound understanding of editorial strategy and brand values.

You'll be driven and determined, but flexible too, as you'll be working on a shift pattern across evenings and weekends. You'll be working as part of a team, so your communication and presentation skills need to be first-class, as well as your ability to take instruction and manage your own workload. You'll need up to date knowledge of media law and IPSO code.
