Job Introduction

Calling all audio experts! We're looking for talented podcast producers to take the lead on our newest project, Laudable. Laudable is a Google News initiative-funded project, ready to take the nation by storm. If you've got what it takes to create and nurture a local podcast network, build a brand, and develop high quality podcasts for local news and information, we want to hear from you.

Working closely with newsrooms and audiences, you'll work to create interesting, diverse and captivating local news content, to attract and retain avid listeners.

With three vacancies in Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh, these positions will operate on a 75 hour fortnight, with some early shifts, lates and weekends, on a two year fixed term contract.

We are Reach because it's what we do.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 620 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with 8 billion page views per year.

We average 35 million unique mobile visitors - that's 84% of the entire online mobile population. Each month we attract over 39 million unique visitors, and that makes us the number one news media publisher in the UK. You will help us further increase our digital audience into 2019.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and identify new local podcast opportunities
  • Edit and train editing skills in audio and podcast production techniques
  • Coordinate wider network projects as appropriate
  • Promote Laudable podcasts, either internally or externally
  • Deliver Laudable project requirements and hit required project milestones
  • Review projects regularly and optimise from learnings
  • Identify new commercial opportunities with podcasts
  • Maintain relationships across editorial and commercial teams
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of IPSO and editorial conduct issues
  • Work within assigned newsrooms and across Reach/JPi Media networks
  • Identify and work with groups who may not be accessing local news at the moment
  • Work with commercial colleagues to identify and grow podcast revenue

The Ideal Candidate

You're creative, innovative and can produce outstanding audio and/or video content at the drop of a hat. You're an editing whizz who knows their way around the Adobe suite, Audition in particular, and you live to tell a good story.

You'll have your NCTJ, or similar journo qualifications already, and you're ready to work collaboratively with other media publishers in order to help Laudable step forward as a market leader.

You'll have experience reporting community stories across digital platforms, and will be ready to build a brand that the community relates to and welcomes with open arms. You're a quick learner, who works well to a deadline, and always delivers accurate and top quality content.

Confidence, communication skills and good organisation skills are key for this role, and if you're a dab hand with graphic design software, like Photoshop, that's an added bonus.
