The Rail and Geotechnical Business unit consists of over 875 people, with people located in virtually every office within the UK. The rail part of the business includes Network Rail, TfL and HS2 amongst its biggest clients, with the geotechnical business serving virtually every operating unit within BIAF as well as cross line of activities into the nuclear and mining sectors. We also provide Permanent Way (P-Way) Design and Engineering Consultancy support to railways here in the UK and across the globe.

As a result we're looking for people who have the passion and drive to be involved with major projects within the UK and global Rail sector, while developing a growing team of P Way designers.

We have an opportunity in London, London Bridge for an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join our Permanent Way Design team. We are looking for someone is looking to progress their career able to take the initiative on a wide range of Permanent Way (P-Way) projects.

Reporting to the Jacobs Discipline Lead, P Way, the Principal Permanent Way Design Engineer will be capable of undertaking P Way 3D alignment designs for Feasibility, Concept, Detailed and Construction phases of a design project, including the P way element of multi-disciplinary designs.

The Principal Permanent Way Design Engineer will be responsible for originating alignment designs and for leading, checking and approving designs produced by others. In addition, the Principal Permanent Way Design Engineer will be required to produce, check and approve models, drawings and design reports and associated documentation, and also to represent the Discipline Lead at design development and review meetings and workshops.

In addition, the Principal Permanent Way Design Engineer will be required to produce, check and approve models, drawings and design reports and associated documentation, and also representing the Discipline Lead at design development and review meetings and workshops.

Qualifications

Essential:

• Degree in a relevant Engineering Discipline, including Civil, Mechanical or Railway Engineering.

• Experienced BRT user

• Experienced MicroStation user and Bentley OpenRail design software

• User of other relevant software packages including Clear Route, ProjectWise, SD Calculator

• Excellent understanding of multi-discipline railway design interfaces.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to produce technical reports and extensive relevant railway design experience.

Desirable:

• Professional membership of a relevant Professional Engineering Organisation or progressing towards Professional membership.

• Experience of Network Rail CRE role or similar.

• Design management experience

• PTS or similar

Willingness to work overseas on a fly in fly out business trip basis
