Are you a proactive, organised and compassionate individual with proven experience of delivering quality training and support to groups and individuals, using a range of approaches, including adults who face barriers to learning? If so, St Giles Trust is looking for a Trainer / Assessor to recruit, support and develop ex-offenders in custody and the community to become Peer Advisers.

About this key role

As Trainer / Assessor, you will focus on recruiting learners in custody and the community with the relevant skills, motivation and aptitude to become Peer Advisers, carrying out an assessment of individuals’ suitability for the programme and their learning needs. After which, you will deliver effective and tailored training programmes, offer vital support, and provide one-to-one mentoring, including individual learning plan reviews. You will also work towards helping each individual achieve a City & Guilds Level 3 Advice and Guidance qualification and complete successful work placements.

Coordinating promotion and marketing for the project is a key aspect of the role, as is developing good relations with other St Giles Trust teams and staff and contributing to the development of a positive and successful team.

What we are looking for:

  • An A1 assessors’ qualification or willingness to achieve qualification
  • The ability to assess learners in work situations, and support them to achieve a Level 3 qualification
  • An understanding of issues facing individuals with multiple and complex needs, in prison and on release
  • A track record of delivering training and learning opportunities to disadvantaged learners
  • An excellent communicator, oral and written, with strong IT, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Sympathy with the aims and ethos of St Giles as an organisation
