About the role
A BI developer is required to join our clients expanding Business Intelligence team. The right person will have three years experience or more working in a similar role. It is important that the successful applicant understands the difference between data and information, they are looking for someone who adds value, providing the organisation with intelligence analysis not just the traditional vanilla reporting. You must have attention to detail, take pride in getting the solution right first time, and be prepared to challenge established conventions to drive business improvement. Above all you must have a natural curiosity about data and technology, and how it can be used to improve business performance and productivity.
Reporting to the Business Information Architect the developer will be responsible for the extraction, manipulation and analysis of data to develop analysis for all areas of the business. This will involve utilising the Microsoft BI tool stack to create Operation and MI dashboards, strategic insight analysis and ad-hoc analysis across the business. There will also be support duties, covering BI and data warehouse related support issues.
Skills and Business Experience
The right person will need to be an inventive problem solver and an analytical thinker, with a track record of finding creative, accurate and robust solutions to data problems. Good communication skills both verbal and written are required, as is experience of working with all levels of the business user base.
Previous experience on SQL Server BI projects is essential. (This role will not be for the developer who wants a traditional OLTP reporting environment). Significant proven expertise in developing T-SQL on SQL Server and experience of both normalised relational and dimensional data modelling methodologies are required.
Experience with using SSIS to extract data from multiple key business systems into a data warehouse environment is essential, as is experience in delivering successful BI solutions using a variety of visualisation tools, including SSRS, SSAS and PowerBI.
Specifically the following skill set is required
Essential
*
Good communication skills with previous experience of working with business stakeholders to define requirements and document solutions.
*
A solid understanding of relational databases, database design and data warehousing techniques.
*
Experience of Multi Dimension design and implementation (Kimball), including SCD etc.
*
SQL Server 2008R2 or above. With Strong T-SQL and some basic DBA knowledge.
*
Experience with SSIS in various scenarios, including Data warehousing and .Net scripting extensions.
*
Excellent Analysis Services (SSAS) and OLAP cubes experience, and preferably tabular model also.
*
Previous experience of working with data from multiple sources is essential, ideally Housing data.
*
Extensive experience with Reporting Services (SSRS) and data visualisation tools.
Desirable
*
Experience using PowerBI to build complex dashboards.
*
Previous experience supporting BI solutions, monitoring database and SSRS performance and tuning SQL.
It would be a great advantage if the candidate had previous experience within a social housing environment, using the Capita Open Housing system, or similar
