The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. We employ almost 6,200 staff, and hundreds of staff and students from other organisations also work in our hospitals. We benefit from around 1,000 wonderful volunteers at the Trust and our main charitable partners are the League of Friends at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Friends of the Princess Royal Hospital, and the Lingen Davies Cancer Appeal which is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Reporting to the Board, we are looking for a Chief Executive who will bring visible and inspirational leadership, experience and drive to the Trust. We need a CEO who can lead us on a journey of transformation. This means we need an exceptional leader, an individual who has a proven record of accomplishment of delivery. The successful candidate will need to instil confidence in our board, people, patients and partners - they are the person we need to turn our aspirations into reality.
This is an exciting time for our Trust. Through the NHS Future Fit programme, GBP312 million has been secured for the transformation of our hospitals. Under these plans, the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford will become a dedicated Planned Care site and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) will become a specialist Emergency Care site. This will allow specialist doctors to treat the most serious cases on the Emergency Care site, which is proven to be safer, provide better results for patients and reduce the amount of time people stay in hospital.
However, it is the case that we are in Special Measures, have a large Cost Improvement Plan (CIP) to deliver and are subject to a review of our Maternity Services, but these should be considered as short-term issues that need to be dealt with in our journey towards delivering the reconfiguration of our two hospital sites.
This appointment is critical, and as our new Chief Executive it will be essential that you empower and develop staff, stimulate innovation and collaboration, internally and externally, and strive for the highest standards of performance. You will be committed to engaging deeply with our staff, patients and the wider health and local community to improve clinical, quality and safety outcomes and the patient and staff experience.
