Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday), 52 weeks
Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays rising to 30 days plus bank holidays after 5 years

Seashell Trust has an Ofsted outstanding non-maintained Special School, and an independent Specialist College which supports both day and residential young people with complex communication and learning difficulties. The children and young people at Seashell Trust have a range of learning, communication, multi-sensory and physical needs, and students with autism spectrum conditions. The Trust also offers Outreach services including Speech and Language Therapy to children and young people from 2-25 years with complex needs and/or autism in a range of settings.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to Lead the SLT team across the Trust and provide assessment and intervention for a specialist caseload across services. The role will lead the SLT team to provide high quality and dynamic support to all children and young people on site and Outreach clients to enable them to develop their communication skills. The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring students with dysphagia are able to experience safe and enjoyable mealtimes.

The Speech and Language Therapy Lead will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including Occupational Therapists, Assistive Technologists, Physiotherapists, Audiologists, Nurses, behaviour specialists and specialist Teachers.

Requirements:

• Experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist with children and/or adults with profound communication impairments, including people who are non-verbal
• Experience of working with people with profound communication difficulties who sometimes exhibit challenging behaviour
• Understanding of the communication needs of people with exceptional complex disabilities, including deafness, multi- sensory impairment and autism
• Understanding of augmentative and alternative communication systems
• Skills in the assessment of different diagnosis, interventions and the management of students with communication and swallowing disorders
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Experience of managing and developing less experienced qualified staff
• Experience of project management
• Ability to develop new packages of support in line with current best practice evidence
• Experience of leading staff training activities and providing staff clinical supervisions
• Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification
• Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
• Registration with the Health Care Professions Council
