About the Role
The Head of Communications will drive the visibility and support the impact of NFER’s work, leading a team of communications experts in the development and delivery of an external and internal communications strategy. The role will promote and maintain a positive brand image for NFER and its work, capturing both proactive and reactive communications activity covering:
- Press, digital and traditional media
- Stakeholder communications, including policy communications
- Marketing and communications support for business development
- Corporate communications
- Public relations and reputation management
- Brand management
- Internal communications planning and delivery
About the Team
Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role leads a team of four which comprises a Policy Communications Manager, a Press & PR Executive, a Communications Executive, and a Marketing, Events & Stakeholder Executive. We are looking for someone who can work at a senior level and deputise for the director of communications.
You will be an inspiring team leader with proven experience of leading a high profile and effective communication function. You will have excellent media relations experience, be an accomplished communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to assess and respond to reputational risk. You’re inquisitive and entrepreneurial, able to embrace new ideas and work closely with colleagues from across the organisation. You’re a supportive but ambitious manager, keen to drive high performance and help your team to develop as individuals.
Other organisations may call this role Senior Communications Manager, Head of Marketing Communications or Head of External Communications.
