We are currently recruiting on behalf a busy Local Authority Department in Preston who require a Payroll & Administration Assistant to join them on an initial temporary contract. We are looking for someone to start around the first week of August. This is a full time position working Monday to Friday from 9am - 5:30pm and will be based at the Town Hall in Preston, Lancashire.

As a Payroll and Administration Assistant, you will undertake a range of duties to ensure the smooth running of monthly payroll. These duties are, but are not limited to:

* Setting up and maintaining employee records on the computerised payroll system

* Completing payroll documentation including P45's, P60's, SSP/SMP notifications

* Completing Inland Revenue and DSS queries

* Issuing payslips

* Checking sickness absences input by departments with sick notes received

* Monitoring unpaid leave/send forms out

* Processing creditors and debtor payments/invoices

* Booking of conferences, travel and accommodation for the Workforce Division

* Organising meetings, including the provision of refreshments

* Ordering of stationery, equipment and car park passes

* Assisting in the administration of the Council's recruitment procedures

The ideal candidate will have a strong background working in payroll and will be familiar with running monthly payroll and its processes. You must also be experienced within administration, be able to cope under pressure and have excellent IT skills including the use of Excel and Word. Experience of using a computerised payroll/HR system is also essential.
